May 30 2010

Estimated 40- 50 lbs  Black Drum caught at marker 39 in the Barge Canal channel. Caught on cut mullet at the north edge of the drop off into the channel 20 ft from marker 39 (which has a group of 5 support posts, good cover for bait fish). I thought many be the Navy had a submarine heading up the barge canal as I couldn't budge her off the bottom and she went just about where she wanted to for at least 20 minutes, about 10 laps around the boat. I never thought I would land her as I only had her on a light spinning rod with 12 lb test mono. Once I got her to the surface it took another 5-10 minutes to get her half in the net. She was as solid as a block of cemet. We took her picture and released her back into the channel.

P.S.
I don't understand why people are afraid to share their fishing experiences. I don't think there'll be a traffic jam at marker 39 tomorrow, and so what if there is, it's a big Gulf. Come on folks Share.
